Rebel Women

Achievements Beyond the Ordinary

by Linda Kupecek

Eleven inspiring stories of bold women who faced conflict, adversity and doubt as they flouted convention and followed their dreams.

From 1916 to 1918, daring pilot Katherine Stinson barnstormed across western Canada, wowing crowds with double loops and dangerous dives.  Actress Nell Shipman, a star of the silent screen, opened an indepedent film production company just when the major Hollywood studios began exerting their power.  Tookoolito, a quiet Inuit woman from Cumberland Sound, once sipped tea with Queen Victoria, but she also survived a nightmarish six months on a drifting ice floe in the Arctic.  Here are the inspiring stories of 11 bold women-adventurers, artists, and entrepreneurs - who faced conflict, adversity and doubt as they flouted convention and followed their dreams.
