The Irish in Cape Breton

by A. MacKenzie

A unique insight into the Irish history that is sometimes overlooked of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

While popular history may think of the Irish in the new world being linked to larger cities such as Boston, New York and Chicago, and in Canada Halifax, Saint John and Montreal, the historic Highland Village near Iona Cape Breton may hold more Irish history than the Scots would have you believe!

About the Author

Born in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, A.A. MACKENZIE struggled through elementary and secondary education there.  He worked as a farmer, telephone lineman, factory hand, and schoolteacher in between bouts of post-secondary education at St. Francis Xavier and Dalhousie Universities.  He eventually landed rather uneasily, in academic life, and is currently teaching Canadian and Maritime Provinces history at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish.
