A young teen girl discovers playing sports as a way to boost self-esteem and feel like she belongs.
Ria has a passion for fashion, but her mom thinks Ria needs to find other interests. When Ria's mom tells her it's either babysitting or joining a school team, Ria reluctantly goes out for the volleyball team because ... diapers? Ew! Though she's not very good at the game, Ria soon finds that small improvements in her play start to make her feel good. When team captain Sutton takes a special interest in Ria and helps her train off the court, Ria finds that it might not be so bad being a "sporty type" after all.
About the Author
KAREN SPAFFORD-FITZ is the author of seven books for children and teens, including Lorimer SideStreets novels Push Back and Saving Grad, both named Resource Links' Year's Best, and Lorimer Sports Story Taking the Lead. While Karen is an avid runner, she enjoyed relearning all she knew about volleyball from the years when her daughters played and her husband coached. Karen lives in Edmonton, Alberta.
