The Guysboro Railway
1897-1939

Used as a tool to gain votes, the attempt to create a railway for the inhabitants of Guysborough Town fell through. These are the reasons why.
Over one hundred years ago, the first attempts at implementing the Guysborough Railway were made. For over fifty years, the citizens of the County pushed for the completion of an "iron road" from Guysborough Town to either Dartmouth or New Glasgow, as a means of exploiting and benefiting from the natural resources with which they were endowed. But politics are politics - although the Guysboro Railway began as an honest attempt to brighten the future of the County, it was soon tainted by its use as a political "vote-getter" in both provincial and federal elections. As a result, the Guysboro Railway was never completed.
