Skate, Robyn, Skate

by Hazel Hutchins

illustrated by Yvonne Cathcart

Skate, Robyn, Skate is an optimistic story about learning a new skill, overcoming emotional obstacles and having supportive friends.
Robyn's friend Marie knows how to skate and would like to help Robyn be more confident on the ice. At the rink near her home Robyn finds that she can take group lessons and participate in the Carnival on Ice. She is much older and taller than all the kids in her group and her instructor is her classmate Jessica. She feels a little humiliated but perseveres, and practices whenever she can. Her neighbour Mrs Kelly encourages her and gives her a secondhand pair of skates. Finally, she surprises herself and Marie when she sees two people fall through the ice on the pond and she uses all her skill to fetch help.
Skate, Robyn, Skate is an optimistic story about learning a new skill, overcoming emotional obstacles and having supportive friends.
